Rufus Newell and Zoe Spowage are two Leeds based artists, working collaboratively on sculpture projects. They have been working together for four years, recently taking part in a month long sculpture residency at Cyprus School of Art. Their process of making is shaped by their separate styles. Recycled and reused by one another, sculptures become bold, colourful assemblages where the craft of the artist’s hand is present.
Working with Year 9 students at Crofton Academy, Rufus and Zoe have been exploring what it means to work with materials collaboratively.
Yorkshire Sculpture International has an extensive engagement programme, spanning education, community collaborations and artist support.
We explore sculpture with people of all ages, connecting them with the materials and processes used in making sculpture today and showing how sculpture can be found all around us. We are currently working with a group of 25 artists across Yorkshire as part of our 2022 Sculpture Network.
