Thahmina Begum

Thahmina Begum is an artist living and working in Beeston, Leeds. Her practice explores cultures, identities, belonging and British/Muslim Diaspora. She is passionate about making art accessible for all sections of society and the promotion of art to improve health and wellbeing.

Begum’s community work aims to give a voice to those who have been silenced, supporting and easing their ideas around art and what it means to them. Her recent work and commissions include working with the British Library, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and The Tetley.

Thahmina is also Creative Director of the Creative Roots Project, a 2-year project funded through the People’s Health Trust exploring heritage and culture of British Bangladeshi communities through creative arts and the celebration of the 50 years of Independence of Bangladesh.

Thahmina has worked with Yorkshire Sculpture International as an Engagement Artist, and she was also involved in our Summer Programme in 2021 through an in conversation with commissioned artist Shezad Dawood after his screening of ‘Concert from Bangladesh’ at City Varieties.
