Over the summer of 2021, Yorkshire Sculpture International invited artists Julia McKinlay and Helen Thomas to lead workshops with the Rycroft Youth Group based around Wakefield’s Festival of the Earth. The group visited the partner galleries – Henry Moore Institute, Leeds Art Gallery, The Hepworth Wakefield, and Yorkshire Sculpture Park – and created work in response to the sculptures they experienced.

The Rycroft group worked with the artists to create sculptures and prints which considered the human impact on the Earth. These were made into the exhibition ‘Leaf, Line, Lump’ which was displayed in The Ridings in Wakefield in September 2021 as part of the Festival of the Earth programme.
