Insiders’ Guide: Sarah Brown, principal keeper at Leeds Art Gallery

Where is your favourite place to stay in Leeds?
Leeds is a great city to visit, with so much going on. It is incredibly popular for weekend breaks and fantastic as a base for exploring the Yorkshire countryside. I would recommend making yourself at home by getting an Airbnb and renting a flat in the city. You could get to know the rest of Leeds by staying off the beaten track. I suggest exploring neighbourhoods in north Leeds such as Chapel Allerton, Headingley, Meanwood or Oakwood.

Which bar does the best drinks?
In Chapel Allerton I would recommend the beautiful wine shop Wayward, a unique, intimate bar where you can buy a bottle, enjoy a couple of glasses and then take the rest home with you.

Which café is best to work in?
North Star at Leeds Dock is perfect to knuckle down in. Their coffee is fantastic – they are known for their flat whites – and make sure to try a cake made by Noisette Bakehouse.

Where would you recommend for lunch?
Little Tokyo is a lovely Japanese restaurant with organic bento boxes, sushi and great bowls of ramen noodles.

And for dinner?
Ox Club is a firm local favourite for a well-thought-out sit-down dinner. For something more casual, Water Lane Boathouse is a beautiful setting close to the train station.
