Seiko Kinoshita is a Japanese artist who lives and works in Sheffield, and creates sculptures and large installations often using traditional textile and craft techniques. She likes working on Public Art projects which make connections with the heritage behind the site as well as the architectural spaces, and social aspects. She is interested in how slow and dying craft skills have a future in our ever changing busy society and how those old traditional techniques can exist within the contemporary art arena.
Currently, Kinoshita is taking part in Platform- two year residency at
Site Gallery, Sheffield as a part of Freelands Artist Programme. She is experimenting and developing a new body of work in collaboration with Pete Sheppard who is a game programmer to explore a potential amalgam of old and new technology.
