This edition of Open Deck is organised by Ashley Holmes and Sable Radio and is part of the public programming Holmes’ installation ‘Distend’ currently on display at Leeds Art Gallery, commissioned by Yorkshire Sculpture International.
Each Open Deck event invites people to come together and bring their own choices of music to share in a relaxed, informal setting. There will be a turntable, a laptop and aux cable setup to play vinyl records or digital files on a USB.
The sessions encourage group listening and conversation, with a focus on the personal memories, associations and descriptions of things that people bring with them. Open Deck was developed from an interest in the ways stories are told and carried through music and aims to explore the important and varied reflections of values, histories and cultural traditions that come within intimate spaces of group listening and discussion.
